Team Solitaire Seattle/Salt Lake City Race Recap
Team Redux Beverages/St. Lawrence Radiology Honda Race Recap presented by Rockwell Watches
Seattle and Salt Lake City
April 25th, 2009
With only two events remaining in the 2009 AMA Supercross Series, it was sink or swim for the Redux Beverages/St. Lawrence Radiology Honda crew as they attempted to put in a couple of strong performances to close out the year. After struggling at the outset of the series, Jake Marsack had been gaining momentum and was looking to put his all new fuel-injected CRF450R in another main event. Meanwhile, Ryan Clark was hoping to notch his best finish of the series and get his Thunder Alley Sports 2009 CRF250R into the top ten.
The weather forecast looked bleak for the weekend, but in the end the race surface was ideal and the temperatures were only a touch on the cold side. In order to save the track for racing, timed qualification was amended to only one session as opposed to the regular two.
Ryan Clark set a quick lap in his session, notching a top twenty-qualification time and seeding him into heat one of the evening. Jake Marsack followed suit, placing his Honda firmly in the second heat of the premiere 450cc division.
Ryan turned a mid-pack start into a top ten early heat race charge. He pressured Jeff Alessi for sixth for most of the race before losing a position late to finish eighth. On to the main event…
Ryan had a good jump in the main but got tangled up early in some first lap carnage. The track was shaping up well, and everyone was clicking off their quickest lap times of the night. At the halfway point he was around 16th, but the field had spread quickly and he was only inching up on the riders ahead. He would make one more pass in the latter stages of the race to move into 15th position.
Jake was going for broke in Salt Lake City, looking to get into another main and work his way up the ladder. He qualified directly out of his heat race with a ninth place finish, along the way battling with the likes of Kevin Windham, Nick Wey and countless others. Jake secured a direct transfer to the main event.
The start was not kind to Jake on this night, as he rounded the first corner nearly last. He threw down consistently quick lap times throughout the 20-lap main event, steadily climbing through the field. When the checkered flag waved, Jake had notched his best finish of the season in 16th.
With the final round of the AMA Supercross Series taking place next weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Team Solitaire/MB1 Racing crew has finally found its footing. We are excited to close out this season with our best finishes of the year and show that we are a force to be reckoned with in 2010.
