Team Solitaire Seattle Supercross Race Report

Beautiful weather greeted the fans and competitors at round 15 of the 2009 AMA Supercross Series in Seattle, Washington. Team Redux Beverages/St. Lawrence Radiology Honda was back in full force, with Ryan Clark competing in the 250cc “Lites” division and Jake Marsack holding down honors in the premiere 450cc “Supercross” class.

Both riders had productive practice sessions and things were looking good heading into the evening program. The track was treacherous due to extremely soft and loose soil, so consistency would be the key to a successful outing in Seattle.

Ryan Clark gated poorly in the first 250cc heat, but he wasted little time moving into qualifying position. He rode a solid race to capture ninth, advancing him to the all-important main event.

When the gate dropped on the main event, Ryan was on the far inside and got shut down in the first turn early. Immediately, however, he made some good line choices and advanced five positions in the first few turns. Sitting in 10th place, it was shaping up to be a great main event. Unfortunately, Ryan experienced a mechanical problem just prior to the completion of lap one that would prematurely end his night.

Jake Marsack has been quietly making huge strides every weekend. In Seattle, he set a top ten qualifying time in first practice and was excited to show his true abilities to the excited Seattle fans. He just missed qualifying in his heat race due to one costly error, but he rebounded in the Last Chance by taking the final transfer position to the main event.

In the main, Jake pulled out a great start from a lackluster starting position. Running inside the top ten for the opening laps, Jake was running the pace and looking strong. As the laps clicked away, Jake stayed strong and consistent. At about the halfway point, he made contact with another rider sending him to the ground. He remounted quickly and charged all the way to the checkers. Jake emerged with 18th place in the main for his efforts.

As we head to Salt Lake City this weekend, the whole Team Solitaire/MB1 Racing crew is excited to put our best foot forward. With only two rounds left in the series, time is of the essence. We look forward to a strong and successful conclusion to the Supercross Series, and hope to see you at the races.
