Northland Motorsports/Precision Concepts WORCS Race Report
WORCS Race Hollister, Ca. April 19, 2009
Pro riders:
Taylor Robert
Robby Bell
Jamie Lanza
The fourth round of the WORCS series stopped in at Hollister Hills SVRA. With temperatures reaching into the low 90's, it was set to be a hot and dusty day. The WORCS crew did a great job of keeping dust to a minimum by watering in areas previousy unreachable. With 30 Pros on the line and a tight twisty course, the start would be crushal. We were finally at full strength as Jamie Lanza was back from his shoulder surgery and fired up to race after a 5 month layoff.
At the start, Jamie shot out in 3rd place. Taylor gated at the edge of the top 10, with Robby mistiming and running 24th. On the 1st lap, Jamie got a little excited and went down twice falling back to 25th . Taylor was on the move until he hit something with his front brake disc and bent it forcing a pit stop for a new front wheel. Robby was on the move up to 15th .
Lap 2 found Robby stuck in a ditch after trying to avoid other racers. By the time he freed up, he was back to 26th. With all 3 riders having major problems early, things weren't looking good. But all of them continued to charge. Jamie moved up to the top 10, only to have his clutch cable break. This required a 3 minute pit stop for repairs. Back to 21st place. Taylor was charging hard, putting in great lap times and moved into the top 10 with 30 minutes to go. Robby was also charging and up to 13th.
As the race wound down, Taylor never backed down and passed into 7th. Jamie once again forced his way foward to take 13th. Robby charged to just outside the top 10, but finally fell victim to the effects of a horrible crash 2 weeks earlier, and fell back to 18th.
Pro Finish:
Taylor Robert 7th
Jamie Lanza 13th
Robby Bell 18th
While this wasn't the result we were looking for, I was happy with the way each rider handled adversity. Taylor's lap times could have put him on the podium if not for the disc problem. Jamie was racing for the first time in 6 months, and passed half the field twice. Robby was not able to prepare nor was he 100% as his crash 2 weeks ago nearly put him in the hospital, but he never gave up.
The next WORCS race is at Honey Lake on May 10th. We will be ready! I know Taylor is healthy and hungry, Jamie will be stronger and Robby will be fired up as he has finished 2nd here before.
Once again, THANK YOU to all of our sponsors, pit help and the racers families. Without you this team would not exsist.
